Law and Order is fictional. In many departments, cops rotate through each division with great regularity and the job of one division is still just a job.
Detectives, especially sex crimes detectives, rarely really fight suspects.
A bull dog attitude is great for a detective but must be tempered with a scientific style outlook. If the hypotheses of the crime shows anything wrong with it it must be abandoned and go on to the next hypothesis. Bulldogs sometimes do not do that naturally, that is how we get the wrong people in jail.
Unlike on TV real sex crimes detectives rarely show their disgust for the bad guys. We make friends with them and become father confessors. Most sex crimes are better off prosecuted with an admission then just ID and scientific evidence.
Men do not make the best bulldogs in sex crime, or any other kind, of investigation.
It depends on the person, not the gender.
The idea that females are better at talking to victims is also untrue.

Men who commit sex crimes are not doing for the sex, it’s for the control over the victim.
TV shows about sex crimes are not even close to reality….. any officer who performed as those on Law and Order would be fired, if not worse.
